Experts Answer the Most Searched Questions on Hair Transplant | Qunomedical

Hi, I’m Emma and I’m a Patient Manager at Qunomedical I’m Lorcan, and I’m also a Patient Manager at Qunomedical We’re going to answer some common questions about hair transplantation First things first, Emma Ops… This might rip Hair transplant what to expect OK… so… The majority of our patients actually choose to travel abroad for treatment so therefore
you would generally need to travel abroad over around three days. You go
over there, you have a driver pick you up at the airport, take you to the hotel. The following day you go to the clinic,
you’ll have a full consultation with the doctor, you’ll have some blood tests
taken to make sure you’re a suitable candidate and then they will proceed
with the treatment. After the treatment you would then be taken back to the
hotel, the next day you’ll be picked up again, take it back to the hospital and
you’ll have a post-treatment check just to make sure that everything’s gone
smoothly and then they’ll take you back to the airport so it’s all very straightforward and when
you’re inquiring basically all you need to do is just send photos of your head over and you can get a pretty accurate quote based on photos but what
is very important when you do something like this is to remember to make sure that it’s good quality Som question for you Hair transplant what is it, Lorcan? So… the most common method of hair transplantation is Follicular Unit Extraction I’ll briefly go through that we do have
clinics to use other methods such as DHI or FUT also but for now we’ll just do FUE which stands for Follicular Unit Extraction, the
operation is performed under local anaesthetic and it takes 4 to 8 hours to complete. They do an extraction of the grafts using a fine needle, those grafts
will be placed into a saline solution for sorting, whilst grafts are being sorted the doctor will perform canal opening on the top of your head and those little
openings are the tubes as it were into which the grafts are being implanted. Those grafts that were in the saline solution will then be re-implanted into the top of the head again using a fine needle so 4 to 8 hours to complete and… I think that’s what it is briefly, how the method works. Another question for me Hair transplant what you need to know There’s quite a lot of information… There’s a lot of information you can find on our website which is
qunomedical.com, basically a lot of what Lorcan told you is about the procedure so other things to know is for example would be what you shouldn’t do
before treatment what you should do after treatment. For example before treatment you shouldn’t smoke for a day, you shouldn’t drink alcohol for three days. Now, there are several things that you need to kind of not do more so than actually do. Also as well what’s
important to know and maybe what you need to really research is the clinic
that you want to go in and the doctor you are going just to make sure you’re
getting a high-quality option and also my personal advice would be, don’t
make a decision until you’re fully comfortable, and then when you’re comfortable you can go ahead. Next, Lorcan Hair transplant age, this is an interesting question So, under the age of 25 can be quite young for a hair transplant the reason being your hair loss pattern might not be
clearly defined however clinics will take patients that are 18 or 20 and different clinics have different requirements, it really is a matter of what your hair loss case looks like and Emma briefly touched on that so you can send us your photographs and also if you’ve been to a doctor recently and you’ve been diagnosed with Male Pattern Baldness, we can look into your case but just you need to be aware that it could be that you’re too young for a hair transplant It’s quite rare, just to jump in there, that you’re too old, it can be the case though that if you have white or gray hair when you have
this, basically just imagine: when you have a head of black hair or brown hair
it’s very thick because the color’s darker, whereas if you have blonde
hair or gray or white hair then actually it looks thinner so it means to
get the same kind of look density that they actually need more grafts so that
it can be more tricky, also what you do find is in the older patients they
tend to have more hair loss which may mean that the donor area doesn’t have enough
supply to give a full result so that’s another factor that’s worth
consideration and also the fact that when age comes there might be medical conditions that may affect your suitability for your
treatment. What happens to the donor area? After you’ve had your treatment your donor area will be very red, you’ll have blood spots. Anyway the good news is that it will heal
very quickly, the body is amazing by seven days that will completely
have scabbed over and everything, so will be the recipient area also and then what will
happen with the recipient area you will actually get some scabbing and after around 1 to 2 weeks that will all fall off so realistically you’re looking fairly normal after about 2 weeks so yeah the donor area definitely for the first 1 to 2 weeks will be noticeble if you’ve done the treatment What to expect after treatment Well, Emma touched on that with the scabbing, you will have that for 2 weeks after the treatment, you can wash away the scabs that you still have after 2 weeks. You’ll have swelling and bruising for 5 to 7 days generally most of it will also subside after 2 to 3 days You can bring this down with an ice compress You’ll have some headaches post treatment, numbness is also a very common side effect of the treatment that you’ll likely will have So post treatment you might feel tired or also quite awake, your body might feel a little strange after the local anaesthetic and if you’ll go to any of our partner clinics they’ll take you
from the hospital to the hotel by a staff member so lots of people do ask
“Should I travel with the partner?”, if they can serve me, “How would I be safe to move
after the treatment?”, lots of people do travel with partners but you don’t have to, staff members are there for you It’s worth that you touch on some of the post-treatment rules Post treatment: do not smoke if you do so wait for three days
after the treatment, avoid alcohol and sexual intercourse for seven days post treatment
you need to avoid saunas, steam rooms swimming pools, intensive exercise
as well for 4 weeks post treatment and sunbathe and direct sunlight is another one to avoid for 4 weeks post treatment as of returning to work you’re safe to do
so three days after you have the treatment, you’ll have visible scabbing for two weeks after treatment so that could be a factor when considering how soon after the
treatment you go back to work for those of you who need to wear specialized
hat gear for work like hard hats you need to avoid wearing the hard hat
for four weeks, different clinics do have different requirements
on this but as a sort of average four weeks is the general recommendation post treatment it’s also worth touching on I think one of the biggest questions we get is “OK, so I’m going to have this treatment I don’t
want anyone to see it, can I wear a hat?” and actually you should not wear a
hat for ten days after treatment unless your doctor tells you otherwise, some
doctors do provide like fishing hats but ideally it’s best you don’t wear
it because actually it can damage your procedure and then maybe you should
consider like when you’re thinking “Oh such a pain, I don’t want to have
to stop smoking or stop drinking” is actually you should because you’re protecting
your investment, you paid to do this so so keep the results, make sure you get good results from it. Which clinic should they choose, Lorcan? Well, Qunomedical professionally vets clinics and physicians and any clinic you choose to go to has gone through an extensive vetting process in order to partner with us and we’re partners with this clinics which means we get constant feedback and constant contact so anything that you need to do with the clinic we can have that done for you very quickly. The clinic options depend on where you
want to go we have different clinic options, popular destination would be
Poland, Hungary, Turkey if you like to stay in your home country we have clinics we partner with in the UK, Ireland, and Germany and Austria and there are options in Spain, the United States, Canada, and if you would like
suggestions on clinics we can describe you what sort of options we
have for you ultimately the decision is up to you. Just know any option that you see is really only of the highest standard possible. How does it work? So just to kind of reiterate, basically the grafts are taken from the back of your head with a fine needle and then as Lorcan already explained, they will be transplanted. What you should bear in mind is that replanting a hair follicle or graft
as we refer to it it’s like replanting a tree, so once you take out this graft, a graft is basically one to 4 hairs, and basically once you remove that
you’ll move that to a new location it’s not going to grow back in the old location and
this is a common misconception so what you should bear in mind is that actually
you’re moving that graft really along with the the root let’s say and also as
one of the reasons it works, this is a question I also get a lot, is “OK, but am I just going to lose the hair again?” but basically the back
of the head has a different genetic makeup to that here, especially for men,
so when you transplant this hair it’s more likely to be effective and like
last… what was the question? … yeah and then
what will happen is after the hair transplant you’ll go home and then this is where
you’re going to be very patient because actually it can take up to 12 months, in some patients even 12 to 18 months for the hair to grow, so yes please be patient. How long does it last? So the transplanted hair is permanent and it’s taken from the back of the head with good reason. A hair transplant does not prevent against future hair loss from the top of the head or the temple area because those hairs have a different genetic makeup to the hair in the back and the sides. The hair transplant is designed to be a stand-alone so it’s not a matter of one necessarily leading to another one but depending on your hair loss case, many patients choose to go for multiple treatments which generally are split one
year apart in the case of multiple treatments but… all this needs certain eligibility, what’s possible in your personal case so just send your photographs we can have someone examine them for you and have a quotation and graft estimation within a day or two. A good example to touch back on
the age… is for example somebody who’s like 25 and he’s just missing
the hair line and so he has to have a transplant for the hair line 5 years down the line he’s missing hair on his crown, he said, so that obviously he’s gonna need another hair transplant for the crown of his head. There are medications and treatments you can discuss
with the doctor to prevent the hair loss or at least slow it down, but we can’t advise on this because we’re not doctors but just bear in mind that you may need another
treatment but in some cases we can’t tell that yet, not even the doctor can tell
this because it depends on your hair loss pattern, that’s why the best way to really figure
out is to check the hair loss in your family and their hair loss pattern and just guess that yours gonna be similar. Thank you guys for checking in with us if you have any more
